AT HOME

2021

Video installation (two-channel with audio)

Variable dimensions / Loop 4’ 23”

Self-portrait on video, “Em Casa” (At Home) was conceived, acted, filmed and edited by Dias & Riedweg in the house they have shared for the past two decades in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, in Rio de Janeiro. As in many of their works, the theme of otherness -- rather questioning what is usually called Other -- remains in focus but here, in the loneliness of the quarantine experience of the covid pandemics during 2020. The artists decided to multiply their own images in two twin-videos. They staged two video-pantomimes, where each plan presents several Mauricios or several Walters in the same space, all acting simple typical situations of the confinement that ravaged the world. In this piece, the self becomes a sum of many others, many Mauricios, many Walters, but also anybody, all separately and together in the experience of quarantine. The visual repetition and accumulation of the artists in the videos remove any possibility of recognizing a real identity, taking the viewer to the borders of reality and fiction, of private and collective, without really revealing in which territory they operate. The Block of the Quarantine adds a visual poem and an own soundtrack to the piece.

AND IF IT NEVER ENDS

WHAT TO LEAVE FOR

WHERE TO LEAVE TO

IF WE LIVE NO MORE

WE DIE NO MORE

WE FUCK NO MORE

AND IF THIS IS IT

WE CAN’T STEP OUT

INSIDE WE CAN ALL

OUT WE CAN NO more

WHAT TO LIVE FOR

WHAT IF THIS IS ALL
